Strong Contractions Mean Some of the Best Options for You

3 min read

You are more than ready to give birth to your kid after being pregnant for the required 40 weeks. All of the necessities for your upcoming hospital stay have been arranged as your due date draws near.

You can feel your kid kicking and moving about in there, but you still haven’t experienced any contractions. You may be wondering whether there’s anything you can do to hasten labour or if there’s a natural way to get contractions going sooner than they would have on their own.

In most cases, it’s best to let your baby decide when it’s ready to make an appearance rather than trying to force the issue. So how to make contractions stronger and closer together ?

The following are some strategies that have been shown effective and safe for inducing labour.

Natural childbirth induction

Since there is few scientific evidence supporting their efficacy, these methods are often relegated to the realm of folklore. Before trying any of these approaches, it is best to get the OK from your doctor or a trained delivery worker (such a midwife).

Activate your muscles

Movement during the start of labour may be helpful. Going for a walk around the block or up a few flights of stairs can do the trick just as well as signing up for a kickboxing class if you’re looking to get in shape.

  • The idea is that the infant may be lowered farther down the birth canal with the help of gravity. The added pressure might help your cervix dilate.
  • If nothing else, doing out may help you relax and gain muscular strength even if it doesn’t help you lose weight. However, you should not overdo it, since you will need your strength and stamina when the hard work begins.
  • Take part in a sexual encounter Some people recommend having sex to kickstart labour. If your water has not yet broken, you may try it.
  • One possible explanation for its potential effectiveness is the high concentration of prostaglandins in semen. In enough doses, this hormone may stimulate uterine muscular contractions.
  • So, if you want the sexual session to begin, suggest that your partner ejaculate inside your vagina.

The hormone oxytocin, which causes the uterus to contract, may be released in response to sexual stimulation, including during an orgasmic episode. Breastfeeding mothers produce this hormone, which shrinks the uterus to its size before pregnancy.

You should try to relax

If you’ve ever attended a childbirth education course, you undoubtedly know at least one method for calming your nerves during labour.

You might also try relaxing and visualising the beginning of labour contractions. This is a great way to alleviate tension and is well worth a try, even if you find that it doesn’t do anything to kickstart contractions.

Take in some spicy food

Foods high in capsaicin, such hot peppers, and other spicily prepared dishes, are hypothesised to help induce labour. This might be because prostaglandins are released during digestion of very fiery foods.

Some pregnant women claim that the heat of peppers is what finally brings on labour. Some have speculated that the catalysts for positive change range from pineapples and licorice to Chinese food.

However, if you are not accustomed to eating these items, it is probably not the best idea to try starting labour by adding anything new to your diet.
